Personiv Philippines Makes History – 100% Certification Rate for In-House Six Sigma Green Belt

by Crisglen John P. Villegas
MUNTINLUPA CITY, Philippines- Personiv, a global business process (BPO) outsourcing provider to many leading brands, have recently made a name for themselves in the history of Lean Six Sigma in the Philippines. Officially, in January 23, 2017, everyone in Personiv’s Management Committee was certified and became one of the few companies to reach a certification rate of 100% for an in-house Six Sigma Green Belt Program.
“We became more bonded because you can really see other leaders who have completed their projects reaching out to those who are in need…” – Paulo Cheung, VP Operations, Personiv Philippines
It is without a doubt that the Service industry, particularly those within IT, BPO, and Shared Services, continually grows each day, and as the Industry grows, the competition between each provider tightens without prior notice. Hence, the company, together with its employees must then continually hone their processes and skills for the company’s continuity.
According to Rex Tuozo “The Six Sigma Guy”, there are three critical elements that companies must possess if they will undergo Six Sigma: First, The Leadership, about how one leads the program and make sure that everyone do not just attend the program but properly use what each have learned; The Culture, Wherein both the leaders and the people are open for change, are willing to change, and willing to share their insights on how to improve processes;  And lastly, to make Six Sigma as simple and practical as possible to make if effective. That if we will be able to translate something complicated to something that is practical and everyone can digest, then the final output will be a culture of change and innovation.

“...and that’s also the reason why we completed a hundred percent, because we don’t have any ulterior motives or any selfish reasons not to help other people” – Paolo Cheung
Paolo Cheung, VP Operations, even mentioned that their mantra was “We’re all in this together, and we will complete it together” which when combined to the three elements, proves that the company that trains together, stays, and lifts each other; makes history together
Further on, Mr. Cheung also mentioned that the Six Sigma tools and methodologies will be able to greatly help their company as they prepare and pursue for their ISO9001 certification. Truly, Personiv is working hard to improve its processes and its employees' skills, that the people in the venue, including our team, were looking forward to seeing more results of this continuous evolution that they are undergoing.

De La Salle CSB Prof Reduces Enrollment Waiting Time by 70%, Earns Six Sigma Green Belt Certification

by Crisglen John P. Villegas
MAKATI CITY, Philippines- November 25, 2016, Last day of Six Sigma PH’s MEGA Green Belt class, Veronica Gamboa, gained her Six Sigma Green Belt certification after helping De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde decrease the processing time of their manual academic advising process of three programs in Benilde – Saving a lot of precious hours for both students and Academic Advisers.

"Always have an end in mind. One step at a time." - Veronica, CSSGB

Veronica originally aimed only to cut the processing time by half. However, eventually she revealed in her testimonial that her project yielded even greater results. Of course, she also mentioned the struggles that she faced on her way to the Green Belt title and how she was able to overcome it all.

The graduating class were fortunate enough to bring home a handful of things which can be helpful once they start conducting their own projects. Of course, such things should be shared to everyone! So, further this article is our one-on-one interview with Veronica. Go ahead, gather some tips and Be Inspired!

     Q. What prompted you to take the Six Sigma Workshop?

     A. This is part of our professional development program in the College with an intention to impart this knowledge to the students.

     Q. What Prompted you to start your project?

     A. There was a need to improve the processing time in the manual academic advising because of the long lines in our office and our students wait for a long time.

     Q. What was your project about?

     A. My project is the manual academic advising process of three (3) programs in Benilde. The goal was to improve the processing time from 5 minutes to 2.5 minutes.

     Q. How was it like for you, starting up and executing your own project?

     A. The data gathering was quite hard because I had to conduct surveys to determine what process I can focus on. Having an end in mind is what is important.

     Q. What were the results of your project?

Due to the brainstorming with the academic advisers and changes in process, the processing time improved from 5 minutes to 1.5 minutes.
     Q. What was the impact of your project to your company?

     A.
The impact of the project is that the students would not have to wait in line for so long and the academic advisers can accommodate more students.

     Q. What was the impact of being a certified Six Sigma Black Belt to you as an individual?

     A.
The biggest impact of the certification is that I am more equipped to teach the concepts and applications to my students.

     Q. What would be your message to those who are currently taking / planning to take the Green Belt Program or those who are currently conducting their own projects?

     A. Always have an end in mind. One step at a time.
"If you attend our Six Sigma programs, unlike other training providers, you get continuous support after the program, for no additional cost.  You'll be assigned a Black Belt to help you complete your project," –Rex Tuozo, “The Six Sigma Guy”

     Q. What prompted you to take the Six Sigma Workshop?

     A. Personal growth and career growth prompted me to explore Six Sigma training. I came across iAcademy which offered the training back in 2014. Through my personal savings, I took the training and equipped myself for possible projects.

     Q. What prompted you to start your project?

     Q. What was the impact of being a certified Six Sigma Black Belt to you as an individual?

     A. Having the Six Sigma Green Belt certification, it boosts self-worth and confidence. I also landed in a job where I can maximize what I learned. As a shift leader, I am now creating processes, documenting them and eventually improving.

"That's one reason why companies give high value for Certified Six Sigma individuals.  One does not just attend a program and receive his certification, but has to successfully apply and show proper use of tools and methodology with actual work processes.  One has to earn his Six Sigma certification,"- Rex Tuozo, “The Six Sigma Guy”
     Q. What would be your message to those who are currently taking / planning to take the Green Belt Program or those who are currently conducting their own projects?

     A. For those who are taking the Six Sigma Green Belt program, congratulations because you are already a step ahead of your challenges. When you are faced with difficult situations and roadblocks in completing your projects and certification, look back to what this training really meant for you. Like my former boss said, “Pay your tuition once”. Do what it takes to complete your certification, never let frustrations and disappointments weigh you down. Prayer and perseverance helped me achieved this long-awaited certification.

Purchasing TL Brings an Annual Revenue Increase of P3.1 M - Gets Green Belt Certified.

Further this article is our one-on-one interview with Josie, where you can learn a couple of things that can help you in your own journey.

Go ahead, Be Inspired!

     Q. What prompted you to take the Six Sigma Workshop?

     A. As a manager, part of my task is to make sure that my department constantly evolves and improve, I can only guide my team if I have this formal training which is the reason why I took Six Sigma Green Belt.

     Q. What Prompted you to start your project?

     A. For three years, It always been my dream to attend this certification Program, at first, I was waiting for the company sponsorship, however, It did not happened based on my set waiting period. I then decided to pursue it and took the workshop last April 2016.

     Q. What was your project about?

     A. My Project is about the reduction of processing lead-time of purchase requisition from 9days to 6days.

     Q. How was it like for you, starting up and executing your own project?

     A. It was difficult at first because there are a lot of possible causes of the problem. Also factual data are very general. I can’t even do Pareto analysis to further analyze the causes of the problem.

     Q. What were the results of your project?

     A. To address the concern regarding data availability and to come up with the real cause of the problem and actions to be done to solve this, I have created a team which comprises of representatives from different teams. We have discussed problems and possible solution and came up with the best one. We have implemented the action items and target to have 100% completion end of 2016.
     Q. What was the impact of your project to your company?
     A. Non-Financial:
1.Better service to the owner/ OSM Technical as part of OSM Ship management.
2.Motivates employees to work hard as their personal development is being addressed.
3.Avoidance of wrong supply, and the cost and hassle that goes with it.
4. Achieve our 2016 KPI

     Financial:
1. Increase productivity thus each Purchaser can accommodate approximately one half (0.5) additional vessel each Purchaser at USD575 X 18/2 = USD5,175 per month or USD65,100 per year.
2.Gain additional rebates from contracted suppliers
"That's one reason why companies give high value for Certified Six Sigma individuals.  One does not just attend a program and receive his certification, but has to successfully apply and show proper use of tools and methodology with actual work processes.  One has to earn his Six Sigma certification,"- Rex Tuozo, “The Six Sigma Guy”
     Q. What would be your message to those who are currently taking / planning to take the Green Belt Program or those who are currently conducting their own projects?

     A. My message are as follows:
     1. Immediately start your project so you can maintain fire in your belly to finish your project. The longer you procrastinate the lesser the chance you can finish your project as you might forget some of the discussion and you might have different priorities later on
     2. Learn also how to be a good sales manager- you should be able to sell your project to the management by focusing on benefits.
     3. Remember that we are project managers - we don’t need to know everything. WE just need to compose a team that will be able to help us find the root cause, generate a detailed report and agree on the action items later on.
     4. Ensure to reward and recognize the members of your project team.

     Q. If there’s anything else that you’d like to share about your experience, what would it be?

      A. Even before I started attending this GB workshop last April 2016, I already have the ënd result in my mind - to be able to become a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt within 2016. As this is under my personal account, I need to do the project after office hours and during weekends, get support from my colleagues and reward them from my personal pocket as well but that does not hinder me to stay focus on my objective. Luckily, I was able to achieve it.
To be certified in Six Sigma, one has to complete an actual Six Sigma project and apply process improvement tools, methodology and techniques learned in class.  "That's one reason why companies give high value for Certified Six Sigma individuals.  One does not just attend a program and receive his certification, but has to successfully apply and show proper use of tools and methodology with actual work processes.  One has to earn his Six Sigma certification," Tuozo said.  "If you attend our Six Sigma programs, unlike other training providers, you get continuous support after the program, for no additional cost.  You'll be assigned a Black Belt to help you complete your project," Tuozo added.
