SME Entrepreneur Receives Six Sigma Certification, Saves Business P100k a Year

MAKATI CITY, Philippines-  Jasmine Apolinario, entrepreneur and owner of Jasmine's Laundry Shop based in Thaddeus St. MRV Pasig City, earned her Six Sigma Green Belt Certification last July 22, 2016, last day of Six Sigma Philippines' 17th Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Program for Service Industry.  Jasmine shared the highs and lows of her project, how she addressed the roadblocks, and inspired the graduating Green Belt Class to complete their projects to get certified.

To be certified in Six Sigma, one has to complete an actual Six Sigma project and apply process improvement tools, methodology and techniques learned in class.  "That's one reason why companies give high value for Certified Six Sigma individuals.  One does not just attend a program and receive his certification, but has to successfully apply  and show proper use of tools and methodology with actual work processes.  One has to earn his Six Sigma certification," Rex Tuozo, Master Black Belt of Six Sigma Philippines said.  "If you attend our Six Sigma programs, unlike other training providers, you get continuous support after the program, for no additional cost.  You'll be assigned a Black Belt to help you complete your project," Tuozo added.

The goal of Jasmine's project is to reduce the number of days not meeting their target output of 40kgs from 73% to 33% in 5 months.  "Data collection was our first challenge.  As a small business, we're not used to identify and measure KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)," Jasmine noted.  After implementing process improvement tools and the DMAIC methodology, the number of days not meeting target output of 40kgs was significantly reduced from 73% to 4%.  The cycle time from tagging to folding was reduced from 6.61 hours to 1.32 hours.  The number of KGs received (capacity) increased by 29.53%, and a projected annualized cost savings of P112,752.00 attributed to action items including new formulation of laundry detergent, revised schedule of washing and lower consumption of water.

"I love to learn.  I had been wanting to attend a Six Sigma class years back and I'm glad I attended Rex's program.  He made Six Sigma practical and effective,"  Jasmine said in her testimonial.
"To the graduating Six Sigma Green Belts, 'Tenacity' is one of the most important trait of a Six Sigma professional.  Always keep that eagerness, that fire, that desire to bring positive change in your organizations.  The Six Sigma certification is just an icing on the cake," Jasmine added.

Jasmine's Laundry Shop is located at #23 Thaddeus St. MRV, Pasig City.  0917-914-5437 & 0938-176-2478.

Operations Manager/ Business Owner Saves P3.5 MM, Receives Six Sigma Certification

MAKATI CITY, Philippines-  Reya de Ocampo, Operations Manager in Franchising Business & Owner of IMSHR Corporate Support Inc. (ICS) received her Six Sigma Green Belt Certification last July 22, 2016, at the graduation of Six Sigma Philippines' 17th Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Course.  Reya shared her experiences on how Six Sigma Philippines' Lean Six Sigma program helped her led her process improvement project.  She also gave tips to the new Green Belt graduates and inspired them to aim for completing their projects and aim for their six sigma certifications.

The goal of Reya's project was to reduce the average number of days of billing-collection (overdue invoices).  After completing her Six Sigma project, it went down from 53 days to 28 days which resulted to projected annualized cost savings of P3.5 MM due to reduction of reconciliation costs and penalties due to overdue balances, and computerization of billing & collection system.  The project also reduced the average processing time from processing of billing invoices by 19 days.

"I have learned a lot from Six Sigma Philippines' Six Sigma program.  I have learned to use graphical analysis to help me come up with data driven decisions.  It also taught me how to identify the appropriate charts and graphical tools depending on what is needed.  And most of all, it gave me a structured methodology (DMAIC) in solving business process problems,  " Reya said in her testimonial.

IMSHR Corporate Support Inc. (ICS) was established in 2002 to provide professional services for the development of human capital and effectively cater to the ever growing needs of its clients.

ICS was accredited by CIVIL SERVICE COMMISION and a proud member of Philippine Association of Local Service Contractors (PALSCON).
