Confessions from Six Sigma PH’s Past Participants about the Programs’ Experiential Design

Makati, Philippines- There are programs where trainers and facilitators claim that their class will be interactive and experiential; and then there are those where it’s the students who are the ones that say “Definitely, literally, and honestly, the program is Experiential" and according to some, they are #shookthed at how experiential it was.

We wanted to know what our students have to say about their Experience in class and here are their answers:

#1 Realistic Experience

Picture
…And when we say experiential, we mean it, physically, emotionally, and mentally!

#2 Harassed!? OMG

Picture
One of our students, Jeremy Hernaez, wrote about her experience:

“One thing I'll never forget about the six sigma yellow belt training is the simulation game. Aside from having felt so harassed 😂😅😆, on my opinion, it was the fun way of learning six sigma.

“…I was becoming sad already thinking that there isn't a role left for me. And me being competitive, I really want something big and "major" haha!! S'Rex could have probably sensed it and assigned the in-sort clerk to me. Me was like "oh, clerk.. it's gotta be something clerical, probably cutting paper, putting paper clip or stapling.. my task was to fill up the package form.

“…And so the struggle, i mean the game begun. Here came the first order, there were 4! Then became 6, 10, 14, 16, until I don't know anymore! All I can hear were the sound of the unsatisfied customers. Yes, unsatisfied customers because delivery of packages were late and is taking longer than expected

“…They were so pissed already thinking that my task was so simple yet I am so mabagal.

“…They just want me out of the game because definitely we will lose the game because of me. Anyways, I got what I was wishing at the start of the game - a major role and major pain in the @$$. Haha!!

But still, after the stress she went through;

“I like how the game was given to us and I liked that (at first,) nobody cared to ask what was the task of each one of us. We just focused on our individual task. Because it gave the worst scenario. It gave the worst that can happen. With that, it gave us a very good opportunity to improved, to change and come out better … But in a real world, people will just tend to point fingers, it is a blaming game instead of going 1 mile deep to know the real problem.”

#3 Was it worth it?

Picture
Of Course, it’s not just Tiring-Experiental! It was a Worth-tiring kind of experiential – according to our student.

Senior Security Analyst Increases Process Yield from 53% to 100% - Gets Greenbelt Certified

By Crisglen John Villegas

MAKATI CITY, Philippines- Ma. Crisena April Ebol, previously with Ingram Micro, as Sr. Security Analyst, recently received her Six Sigma Green Belt Certification after completing her project about the reduction of Incident Report Cycle Time.  Her project made the process consistent allowing them to meet the goal set by the sponsor for each priority tickets to be processed within three days, which ultimately leads to the process having 100% yield.

"It is like playing chess, one needs to know first how the pawn or the queen moves and differ with each other so you will know how to play the game." - Crisena Ebol, CSSGB

We had the chance to ask her a few questions to know more about her project and her six sigma experience, luckily, we were able to gather info that can be useful for those who are aspiring to be certified! She even left some tips, see our conversation below:

Q. What prompted you to take the Six Sigma Workshop?
To know how to improve the process especially with IT field, it is very challenging as normally we do not have the right tools to implement proper change in process.

Q. What Prompted you to start your project?
To know in-depth the methodology of six sigma and how I can apply in my work and in general.

Q. How was it like for you, starting up and executing your own project?
The challenge is to get the data and to get the commitment of the team.

Q.What were the key elements that led to the success of your project?
The key element is the consensus of the team to perform the change because they have found value to it.

Q. What was the impact of being a certified Six Sigma Green Belt to you as an individual and a professional?
It is an honor to be Six Sigma Certified as it indicates that you know how make a good revenue to the company.

"That's one reason why companies give high value for Certified Six Sigma individuals.  One does not just attend a program and receive his certification, but has to successfully apply and show proper use of tools and methodology with actual work processes.  One has to earn his Six Sigma certification,"- Rex Tuozo, “The Six Sigma Guy”

Q. What would be your message to those who are currently taking / planning to take the Green Belt Program or those who are currently conducting their own projects?
The key is to understand how the methodology work so one will know how to fit that in their projects. It is like playing chess, one needs to know first how the pawn or the queen moves and differ with each other so you will know how to play the game.

Q. Is there anything else that you'd like to share about your experience?
Even before I am still under training, I already felt the rise in my market value. Company are looking for individuals like us because they know our value. I never regret the day i choose to take the six sigma path. It is indeed the right decision especially the six sigma is being recognized in the market. It is a good choice to start as one of Six Sigma Facilitator in the business.

To be certified in Six Sigma, one has to complete an actual Six Sigma project and apply process improvement tools, methodology and techniques learned in class
.  "That's one reason why companies give high value for Certified Six Sigma individuals.  One does not just attend a program and receive his certification, but has to successfully apply and show proper use of tools and methodology with actual work processes.  One has to earn his Six Sigma certification," Tuozo said.  "If you attend our Six Sigma programs, unlike other training providers, you get continuous support after the program, for no additional cost.  You'll be assigned a Black Belt to help you complete your project," Tuozo added.

There you have it! We hope that you were inspired by April's story, for similar reads, you can follow this blog or visit us regularly at
